Altior Retired At The Age Of 11

Dual Champion Chase Winner To Be Looked After By Mick Fitzgerald

Four-Times Cheltenham Festival Winner Steps Away From Racing Following Illustrious Career

Dual Queen Mother Champion Chase hero Altior has been retired at the age of 11, with trainer Nicky Henderson calling time on the illustrious career of one of the greatest two-mile chasers of all time.

The 11-year-old, who won 21 of his 26 starts, including four Grade 1s at the Cheltenham Festival, will now enjoy his retirement being looked after by former jockey Mick Fitzgerald, who has been a long-time friend of Altior’s owner, Patricia Pugh.

Henderson said: “Altior has been an incredible horse for us and he will be sadly missed. He has given us some amazing days and we have been so lucky to have him. I would like to thank everyone who has been involved with him, especially his owners, Patricia and Ged Pugh, and his jockey, Nico de Boinville.

De Boinville added: “Altior has been an incredible horse to ride and I will always be grateful for the memories he has given me. He is a true champion and I wish him all the best in his retirement.”
